There is an increasing demand in the United States for scientific expertise in the growing healthcare and pharmaceutical industries and in diverse fields such as genomic research, environmental monitoring, and natural resources conservation. The Southwest Biological Science major is designed to prepare students to enter into pre-professional science programs, graduate schools, or entry-level laboratory and field technical positions. With 11 required biology courses, nine biology electives, and ancillary courses in mathematics, chemistry, and physics, the major offers an integrated lecture/laboratory approach combining basic and applied concepts across the spectrum of disciplines within modern biology.
